Nestled in the quiet southeastern Iowa farmland among the historically quaint villages of Van Buren County, this century-old campground offers a peaceful setting for family, church, and community group gatherings.

 

   "The 23 acres campground at the west edge of the town of Birmingham, known for years as the Huffman Grove had been used by the Fairfield District for Camp Meeting purposes off and on since at least 1887.

  "The Fairfield Ledger published an account of the camp meeting in the horse and buggy days, stating that 'the trains and buses were chartered to take the crowds to the camp meeting which numbered on Sundays, around 7,000 people. An attendant at the campground stated that the horses and wagons lined the highway north of the campground for two miles.' "

   With each life challenge we have encountered as we gathered, we became stronger in our faith.  During the recent years, the camp has hosted Family Camp for the Free Methodist denomination each year for a week and has hosted guest groups throughout the summer months.  Currently we are working to expand the campground to a year-round facility.  We invite you to become a part of the camp family today ~ and a part of its history tomorrow.

   With the passing of each generation there has also been passed along the opportunity, the responsibility, and the blessing of spreading the life-saving message of God's love. We encourage every man, woman, and child to join in the sacred call to continue the legacy of these campgrounds. The history and the purpose of maintaining and enriching the use of this resource includes you as well as your family and friends.
